Government scraps Grade 5 scholarship exam

The Government has decided to scrap the Grade 5 scholarship exam in future.

President Maithripala Sirisena said that he had proposed that the exam be scrapped. Speaking at an event in Polonnaruwa today, the President said that he feels the Grade 5 scholarship examination has not done any good to the children.

He said that some children have been mistreated by their parents for failing the exam. The President said that what is required in society is not a race to enter the best Government school in the country but to improve the resources in all schools.
