First time in Sri Lanka’s aviation history that a Sri Lankan Father and his Son will fly the Aircraft of a Foreign Airline into their motherland together as Captain and First Officer operating on the same flight.
It gives immense pride that this iconic feat will be achieved by Old boy of Mahanama College, Colombo 03 Uditha Danwatte and his only son Kavisha Danwatte (who studied at Royal College) as they operate Air Asia’s Airbus A320-200 Flight AK47 into Colombo from Kuala Lampur.
Wing Commander Uditha Danwatte (Retd.) was a daredevil strike fighter pilot who flew Kfirs, Pucaras and many other fighter aircraft in the Sri Lanka Air Force during the Civil War. He was a notable war hero commended for many dangerous but successful Air Command Missions and is remembered to have safely saved Srilankan Airlines aircraft along with Captain Pujitha Jayakody in the middle of LTTE crossfire when the Airport was attacked by the Terrorists.
