Sri Lanka President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has emphasized the need to change the education system in order to contribute to the rapid development of the country.
The President, meeting with the education authorities and scholars yesterday evening emphasized the need to reform curricula to meet local and global market demands.
He said Sri Lanka has a workforce that can forge ahead in knowledge along with modern technology and added that technology-based education and language skills must be prioritized in driving faster economic growth.
The discussion also focused on the need for a National Education Policy and the importance of public opinion on the matter.
Minister of Education Bandula Gunawardena, Chancellors and Vice-Chancellors of Universities, University Grant Commission members and other authorities were present at the meeting.
